Lyocell bamboo is very different from conventional bamboo, aka bamboo rayon. Bamboo rayon is produced using several harmful chemicals and the process is highly water intensive.
Bamboo used for the Lyocell bamboo fabric grows naturally in abundance. It’s harvested by hand and carried manually to collection points. The selected bamboo species doesn’t require any irrigation, pesticides or fertilizers, and doesn’t repress food production as it thrives in barren soil not suitable for food crops.
The closed loop Lyocell technique significantly reduces water consumption and also eliminates the use of hazardous chemicals by using the organic solvent NMMNO in the production process. This solution is recycled and reused – as is the water involved in the process. Thus, there are no residues of harmful chemicals and the process results in long, strong and durable fibres.
Digital printing uses less hazardous chemical, produces less waste and results in less negative environmental impact than analogue technologies.
